Brother Model TC-R2B
Vertical Machining Center Video

Please take a moment to watch this video.
We promise that it won't bore you.
You see, with Brother's very short cycle times...
...this video just can't be very long.

Caution: Don't blink or you'll never see the tool change!

This Brother Model TC-R2B Vertical Machining Center features...

A Traveling Column (the table does not move), a Rotary Pallet System
and a Flash Indexer that presents 3 sides of the part to the spindle.

Brother - Maker of Sewing machines Brother - Maker of Copier, Fax and Labeling machines Brother - Maker of Typewriters

Brother®, the maker of copier, fax and labeling machines,
home & commercial sewing machines, typewriters and apparel printing machines,
in their never ending quest to be #1 in their industry,
went searching for the fastest machining centers available on the market today
to use in their plants to manufacture their vast array of consumer products.

Not finding any brands suitable for their high productivity requirements,
they decided to design and build their own.

Brother Model TC-R2B VMC

Before discussing the Brother line of machining centers it must be understood that...

The actual "cutting metal moves" on a machining center
generally cannot be improved upon as machining feeds and speeds are fixed
and all machining center brands of the same weight, rpm, rigidity and horse power
will perform the same "cutting metal moves" at the same rate.

The only way to improve part cycle times
is to shorten the time in between the "cutting metal moves".

Hence, buying a machining center with higher rapids and faster tool changes was,
before the introduction of the Brother line of vertical machining centers,
the only way to gain productivity when choosing a brand to buy.

Brother VMC

Brother, when designing their machining centers,
saw these inherent limitations of all the machining centers available on the market today
and made many improvements to further shorten the time in between the "cutting metal moves".

Improvement 1
Brother machining centers have faster rapids
1969 inches per minute are typical

Improvement 2
Brother developed a very unique and faster way of changing tools
Tool to Tool in 0.9 seconds / Chip to Chip in 1.7 seconds

Improvement 3
Brother's CNC Controls "Processing Time"
in between the "cutting metal moves"
is optimized to shorten cycle times

Historically, the CNC Control that comes with most machining centers, although popular,
is purposely designed to be adaptable to a wide variety of machine tool builder brands
by incorporating a generic universal design and it is this generic universal design
that never allows it to be 100% matched to the machine it is retro-fitted to.

Brother designed their own CNC Control that is optimized and matched perfectly
to their machining centers servos and processors.
This gives the Brother Machining Centers
an extremely high processing speed, enabling faster cycle times.

Improvement 4
Brother machining center tapping cycles are extremely fast

Most all machining centers on the market today,
due to their spindle rpm synchronization thresholds,
cannot tap at the highest tapping feeds and speeds obtainable.

The Brother CNC Control with its optimized "Processing Time"
allows for their very high spindle rpm synchronization speeds for tapping
with tap reversal rates 10 times faster than the tapping
all while ensuring precise tap depth repeatability.

Improvement 5
Brother machining centers are highly accurate and quality built machine tools
minimizing the usual non-productive hours spent trying to "chase" and hold tolerances
and insuring the highest obtainable spindle "Up-Time"

Improvement 6
Many Brother machining center models have built-in pallet changers
that further reduces the cycle time of each part

Depending on the method of work holding and the complexity of the part
typically the time to unload a previously machined part, clean the vise of chips and swarf
and to load the next part to be machined into a machining center
is anywhere from 15 to 45 seconds.

With Brother machining center models equipped with built-in pallet changers...
The unloading and loading of parts is performed by the operator
while the machine is machining the next part.

The unload and load time of parts is now reduced to 2.9 seconds* and...
You are now machining virtually non-stop!

Something To Think About

A shop owner was recently quoted as saying...

"I bought the same machining center that my competitor down the street uses."
"After all, if it was good enough for him, it was good enough for me!"

Good enough is not good enough anymore...

You cannot out-produce, out-cost or out-deliver your competition
when you purchase and use the same machine that your competition is using!

New Product of the Month

The Chip Fan is a new tool
that every shop will not want to be without.

The Chip Fan blades deploy at speed by centrifugal force.
At a hover of 4 to 6 inches above the part
and while traversing around the part
the Chip Fan cleans your parts.

Chip Fan blasts with Air

Shops with machines equipped with thru-the-spindle coolant
can also utilize the coolant blast port of the Chip Fan
for additional cleaning.

Chip Fan blasts with Coolant

Advantages

The Chip Fan's cleaning cycle is fixed and dependable, yielding consistent part cycle times
and not dependant upon an operator doing it or even having to be there by the machine.

With the Chip Fan doing most of the cleaning, the operator is free to do other functions
such as part inspection, adjusting tool offsets, deburring, etc.

Using the Chip Fan minimizes the use and likewise noise
of cleaning parts with a air hose.

Operators like not having to get messy with chips, coolant and swarf
so often exposed to when cleaning with a air hose.

Eye injuries from blown back chips are minimized.

The Chip Fan reaches areas of the work table that are not accessible to the operator
when he reaches into the machine with an air gun to clean the parts.

Cuts on hands, wrists and arms from sharp not yet deburred parts are minimized.

Machines with pallet changers can have their pallets cleaned
before they are removed from the machines enclosure
minimizing the chips, swarf and coolant that are typically blown around the shop
when cleaning pallets outside the machine at the unload station.
